Blawan Escapes Lockdown To Play Kiev, Is Stuck There Due To "Brexit"

British producer Blawan appears to be stuck in Kiev after playing a show in the city.

The issue of raves during the pandemic has been much debated within dance music, with many left to question the ethics of those who choose to perform.

Blawan is currently based in Berlin – a city with one of the tightest lockdowns in Europe – but chose to play a party in Kiev over New Year’s.

Using Insta stories, Blawan revealed that he is now stuck there, with LOT Airlines refusing him permission to travel.

Brexit has been cited as a factor, with the DJ complaining about the staff he has dealt with.

A minor social media furore erupted, enhanced by Blawan’s protestation that the party was “absolute fucking fire”.

In a further post, the DJ admitted he can “be a real hot head” and explained that the event was “a legal party” with “permissions and safety protocols”.

“I’m sorry if I annoyed some people,” he says, “but you know I also have a right to be annoyed too sometimes”.

The row touches upon a number of topics that could define dance music in 2021. How will Brexit impact on touring? How can DJs maintain a living while working within safe limits? Where do we draw the line?
