Landshapes Charge Into The Unknown With 'Drama'

Groundbreaking four-piece Landshapes have shared new song ‘Drama’.

The band’s ‘Heyoon’ full length sparked some superlative live shows last year, with each performance granting space for their mixture of math-rock, folk textures, and more to coalesce.

Heading straight into the studio, what has emerged is more refined, yet also more distinctive, with Landshapes pursuing a solitary path.

New album ‘Contact’ lands on November 20th, with bassist Heloise Tunstall-Behrens offering: “We approached this album with the idea of creating more space, simplifying and allowing things to breathe. We also wanted to keep the songs briefer, with fewer deviations.”

We’re able to share new song ‘Drama’, and it’s an inquisitive piece, one that darts from place to place, leaving the listener breathless in pursuit. A kind of extra-dimensional pop song, it’s sharp edges are matched by a soft centre.

Landshapes explain…

“This is a song we’d started playing towards the end of touring ‘Heyoon’, and we were in the mood for something drivy repetitive that would be fun to do live. The verse lyrics existed before the song, and spiral over more like a stream of consciousness than any obvious structure.”

“It sounds like a romantic relationship but it’s not really – it’s sort of about the imbalance of emotional labour that can happen between men and women, and in those instances all the work women often have to do to manage and protect fragile egos. The choruses offer something a bit more sympathetic.”

Tune in now.
