Track Of The Day 19/10 – Fia Moon

Irish songwriter Fia Moon is telling a unique story.

Each song feels like a distinct chapter, building up into this over-arching narrative, emphatically creative and truly absorbing.

New single ‘Let This Go’ is part of this, a superb piece of autobiographical pop that leaves a distinct mark.

It’s a song about self-acceptance, with lyrics that deal with removing negative elements from your life – powerful, and so apt for these times.

Fia says: “It’s about accepting things for what they are and learning to let go of things that don’t make you happy. When you’re so comfortable in a situation, it can be really hard to detach yourself and recognize that you need to walk away and let go of the things that are ultimately holding you down.

It’s cliche, but it’s true that time is a healer and I guess that’s what I meant when I wrote the lines ‘know in time it’ll be ok’. I actually find the song quite self-soothing and I hope that comes across to other people who hear it.”

It’s a gorgeous return, one marked by its Zoe Ardiff directed video, shot entirely using an iPhone in both Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin and Greystones, Co Wicklow.

The playful clip shows Fia carrying balloons as she goes, a metaphor for the hidden weights of previous releationships.

“I wanted this video to capture the feeling of letting go of a relationship that is no longer benefiting you and the realisation that you don’t need to carry the burden of the relationship forever,” Zoe Ardiff comments. “It’s also a reminder to people to have the confidence to go on dates with yourself without feeling that you need someone to be with you.”
