Kanye West Is Reportedly The Reason Travis Scott's 'Days Before Rodeo' Isn't A 'Gangsta Grillz' Tape

According to DJ Drama, Travis Scott‘s 2014 mixtape Days Before Rodeo would have been a bit different if it wasn’t for Kanye West.

In a new interview with FakeShoreDrive‘s Andrew Barber, the famed DJ revealed he’d locked in with La Flame to make the tape a Gangsta Grillz … until Ye convinced him not to.

“That was supposed to be a Gangsta Grillz,” Drama said. “He called me and he was like ‘Yo, I wanna do a tape,’ and then he wound up telling me Kanye talked him out of making it a Gangsta Grillz, [saying] it should be his album. Which I’m not mad at.”

Days Before Rodeo was released as a free tape in August 2014 and featured appearances from Young Thug, Big Sean, Rich Homie Quan, Migos, T.I., Peewee Longway and The 1975. At the time, Scott was signed to T.I.’s Grand Hustle imprint as an artist while also being signed to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music as a producer.

Drama also revealed Lil Uzi Vert’s first mixtape LUV Is Rage was also supposed to be a Gangsta Grillz, and that there was supposed to be one from Outkast as well. And though the latter never came together, it did at least produce a new song.

“Outkast was supposed to do one,” he confirmed. “Before Idlewild came out. That’s how I wound up getting ‘Da Art Of Storytelling’ record because they called me, like, ‘Listen, I know we were supposed to do a tape but we don’t really have time to do it. So because we did agree to do it, how ’bout we give you a record for your album?’ And I was like, hell muthafuckin’ yeah.”
