Al Green has shared a fresh take on Lou Reed’s solo classic ‘Perfect Day’.
Out now, the new single is his first new release in five years, and comes ahead of some headline dates in North America this Autumn. The recording united key components of Al Green’s history with a special guest, blurring the lines between old and new.
The session took place at Sam Phillips Recording in Memphis, Tennessee, a return to his Southern roots. Produced by Matthew Johnson and Bruce Watson, it reunites Al Green with several members of the classic Hi Rhythm Section who super-charged his glorious 70s run.
His first new recording in five years, it closes with an ecstatic back and forth between Al Green and British artist RAYE, the two trading vocals over that finale: “you’re gonna reap / just what you sow…”
Tune in now.
