Nigerian star Bella Shmurda has broken his silence over the death of MahBod – and heavily criticised Marlian Records.

Afrobeats star MahBod scored a string of emphatic hits, part of a generation of Nigerian talent who are shattering the glass ceiling. Initially drawn into the orbit of Marlian Records – the label set up by Naira Marley – he departed from the imprint last year.

Tragically, MahBod died suddenly earlier this week. Fans aimed their furious criticism at Marlin Records, with a petition in Nigeria calling for the label to be banned signed by more than 126,000 people.

In his own statement after hearing the news, Naira Marley said that although they had “disagreements, no harm whatsoever was wished on Mohbad”.

Now Bella Shmurda has broken his silence. In a series of tweets, the artist’s raw emotion comes to the fore – he was closed to MadBod, and explains that his friend’s “spirit won’t let me rest knowing I’m the only one make his spirit calm…”

Taking issue with “those of them who make him live in fear nd almost with nothing to feed on” he calls for Marlian Records to be arrested. Calling Nigerian authorities “too weak as body to fish this people out” Bella then asks supporters to driven Marlian Records out of Nigeria – “they should never come back nd they should ban from entering the country for life”.

Demanding that Nigerian politician Seyi Tinubu – the country’s Youth Minister’ take action, Bella Shmurda then wrote: “it’s our time to do our part for him I want everyone with one voice let get him justice…”
