boygenius combine with Ye Vagabonds to cover ‘The Parting Glass’.

The move is part of Phoebe Bridgers annual tradition of releasing a cover at Christmas, with all proceeds being donated to a good cause. This time round, boygenius unite to tackle a Celtic favourite, linking arms with Irish group Ye Vagabonds.

Out now, ‘The Parting Glass’ is a fresh take on a traditional favourite, a song of gathering and kinship popular in folk circles across Ireland and Scotland. Numerous versions have been recorded with Sinéad O’Connor – who is also featured on the track’s cover art – releasing a striking take back in 2002.

Part of a stellar year for boygenius, the group recently dressed as the Beatles for Saturday Night Live, released their album ‘the record’ to nigh-on universal acclaim, and played a huge outdoor show in West London’s Gunnersbury Park. Heading into the holiday season with no small degree of confidence, this striking cover is a lovely coda for their year of cultural domination.

All proceeds from the song will be donated to the Aisling Project, a charity chosen by the Sinéad O’Connor Estate – it’s an after-school project working with children and young people growing up in a disadvantaged area in Dublin.

“We are absolutely thrilled that boygenius have chosen to give proceeds from the release to Aisling Project,” says Project Leader Mícheál Clear. “It’s an absolute privilege to be associated with the stunningly beautiful homage to Sinead O’Connor and we can’t possibly thank boygenius enough.”

Tune in now.
