Marni announced the latest instalment of its multidisciplinary program Marni Jam, a collaborative capsule with Erykah Badu. The limited edition collection was designed by Marni Creative Director Francesco Risso and Badu and consists of women’s ready-to-wear, accessories and footwear.
The exclusive collection blends different textures and finishes for an intensely evocative and tactile quality that resonates with the creative sensitivity of both Badu and Risso. Designed to be “seen, touched and heard”, the brand tells us, this capsule is densely layered with finishes and fabrics for a multisensory experience. Light, colourful outerwear is accented with shearling and jewel-toned leather patches and ready-to-wear is fully embroidered with onyx, silver, gold and bronze sequins that shine and jingle as they move.
The campaign was styled and art directed by Badu and captured by Italian photographer Sergio Cattivelli in Dallas, Texas. The collection was previewed last week at the Marni Soho Boutique in New York, just in time for the Met Gala, where Badu wore a custom Marni look.
For the campaign, softer pieces are enveloped by bright, warm-toned oversized knits that envelop the wearer and display the malleable nature of the collection. Countering the soft knits are maximalist accessories including metallic leather thigh-high boots and two new iterations of Marni’s signature Venice bag, now with patchwork and leather embellishments and hanging bells. The collection is finished off with Marni’s versions of Erykah Badu’s iconic hats.
Marni x Erykah Badu is available now in select Marni boutiques across the U.S. and will be followers by European retail locations and select multi-brand stores later in the season.
