Floating Points is at his most direct and physical on new release ‘Birth4000’.

The producer has spent large chunks of 2023 absorbed in his compositional work, finishing his first ballet for symphony orchestra and electronics. Titled Mere Mortals, it will premiere in January 2024, performed by the San Francisco Ballet.

Indeed, the West Coast also housed a recent bravura performance, with Floating Points bringing his spiritual jazz work ‘Promises’ to life in Los Angeles. Originally crafted alongside the late, great Pharaoh Sanders, the one-off performance boasts contributions from Shabaka HutchingsKieran Hebden (Four Tet), Dan Snaith (Caribou), Kara Lis Coverdale and Hinako Omori with Miguel Atwood Ferguson conducting.

‘Birth4000’ takes him back to neck-snapping, spine-dislocating dance territory, an electronic mover that bubbles with life and alertness. Overflowing with invention, it’s a radiant return, with a limited edition white label vinyl release following from November 3rd.

Tokyo based artist Akiko Nakayama constructs the artwork – tune in below.
