La Force will release new album ‘XO Skeleton’ on September 29th.
The songwriter sculpted the album herself, going deeper than ever before. Hitting the studio, La Force oversaw sessions herself, accompanied by co-pilot Warren Spicer of Plants And Animals.
The meaning of the material revealed itself over time, with La Force recalling how its title track took on a twin sensibility. “The theme of the album revealed itself in the making,” she explains. ‘XO Skeleton’ refers to a call with her life insurance broker, the singer recalls. “At one point she said, ‘God forbid you should die.’ I was gobsmacked. And a bit hot-tempered. And I said those lines: ‘Well, there’s one thing guaranteed: no god or goddess is going to keep me alive.’”
New song ‘condition of us’ is online now, with seeds having been planted over lockdown. La Force took part in an invitation-only songwriters’ circle organized by producer/engineer Phil Weinrobe, in which writer were encouraged to write a new song every 24 hours.
Working alongside friends and luminaries such as Leslie Feist, Maggie Rogers, Beck, and Big Thief’s Buck Meek, ‘condition of us’ emerged from these sessions, the sound of an artist moving deliberately towards evolution.
