Skepta has shared beautiful new single ‘Can’t Play Myself (A Tribute To Amy)’.
A pivotal figure in the evolution of UK music, Skepta recently opted to return to his roots. Noted for his seminal role in grime, the North London artist has always been outspoken in his love of house, with club culture in his veins.
Más Tiempo is a new label from Skepta and BBK cohort Jammer, the two building a platform for their own work, and parallel voices. New single ‘Can’t Play Myself (A Tribute To Amy)’ finds Skepta going it alone, and it uses a moving Amy Winehouse sample.
Lifting a snippet of ‘Tears Dry On Their Own’ he interpolate this around his own production, the house template proving to be uplifting, yet also subtly melancholic.
Out now, it highlights Skepta’s role as an imposing studio figure, an artist with many different aspects to his work.
