Surfs Up! Dior Hits The Beach With Parley for the Oceans

Dior has partnered with environmental organisation Parley for the Oceans for the second year running on an annual men’s beachwear capsule. The collection is crafted from 59 per cent recycled ocean debris and plastic as the French fashion house takes a stand against ocean pollution.

A partnership born of a shared passion for preserving nature and a joint environmental research project in 2019, Dior and Parley for the Oceans unveiled their first collaborative beachwear capsule last year. Designed by menswear artistic director Kim Jones and from up-cycled marine plastic debris and fishing gear, the collection was a groundbreaking move in sustainability while retaining Dior’s unmistakable savoir-faire.

This new capsule is inspired by the founding couturier Christian Dior’s love of flowers and gardens and reflects Dior’s desire “to move towards a more eco-innovative, sustainable future for fashion” a statement from the brand tells us. The collection is rooted in a diverse colour palette from Dior’s signature grey to joyful corals and lemon yellows that contemplate the diverse landscape under the sea. Jones utilised Parley’s signature upcycled alternative to virgin polyester for the collection, creating a range of t-shirts, polo shirts, sweaters and shorts from 96 per cent eco-responsible materials.

This drop is sportier than the first, featuring two additional collaborations in the form of sustainable wetsuits from surf brand Vissla and an eco-responsible surfboard created with the pioneering French specialists at Notox. “This capsule is committed and very desirable, it’s a mix of innovation and technical performance but still very elegant,” said Jones in a statement earlier this year.
