Thundercat and Tame Impala align on new single ‘No More Lies’.
The pair are arch collaborators, with Thundercat becoming a key part of the LA beats scene. Drawn into the web of everyone from Kendrick Lamar to Flying Lotus, he’s an emphatically creative individual, someone whose skills cross multiple genres.
Tame Impala, too, is used to stretching. Having worked with everyone from Lady Gaga to Gorillaz, it was perhaps inevitable that the Australian maverick would become entwined with Thundercat at some point or other.
Out now, ‘No More Lies’ marks the point these two potent auteurs finally knuckle down to some studio time. The bouncy bassline adds to the fun, with the vocals opening up about a failed relationship – with Thundercat taking full responsibility on the lyric, “But it’s not your fault, I’m just kind of ass”.
Indeed, the closing monologue finds Thundercat getting curiously emotional: “I tell you the truth because I care, but I also lie to you because I care.”
“I’ve wanted to work with Kevin since the very first Tame Impala album,” shares Thundercat. “I feel that I knew that us working together would be special. I’ve been excited about this song for a long time and hope to create more with Kevin in the future.”
