It’s not every day Beyoncé wishes someone a happy birthday but on Tuesday (April 27), Lizzo was the rare recipient of a special birthday greeting from the pop superstar.
Unsurprisingly, Lizzo couldn’t contain her enthusiasm and quickly shared the moment with her 8.6 million Instagram followers. She mentioned in the caption the Destiny Child’s singer was a major influence on her life.
“YALL. @beyonce BEY YON SAY wished me a happy birthday BITCH!” she wrote. “I don’t know how to ACT. She is my inspiration to be a singer after seeing destiny’s child perform in the 5th grade… I LOVE YOU BEY! Thank You! Let me go drink some damn water.”

As the coronavirus pandemic remains a threat, the Grammy Award-winning singer has been quarantined at home but still pops up on social media. On Easter Sunday (April 12), Lizzo was invited to participate in an Instagram Live session with Diddy, which wound up sparking some controversy.
At one point, she started to twerk on camera and Diddy abruptly asked her to stop. Many assumed it was because of her weight and appeared outrage designer/actress Dreya was allowed to twerk without interruption.
The Bad Boy Records mogul later explained it had nothing to do with Lizzo’s dance moves, rather it was the music selection he was worried about.
“There’s one thing I want to make clear,” he said in an Instagram video. “My queen, my sister Lizzo, when I stopped the music it was because it had a lot of curses in there, not ’cause she was twerking. She’s one of the best twerkers in the world, OK? So let’s keep that clear. It wasn’t about twerking — you’re allowed to twerk on Easter.
“It was a lot of cursin’ in the record and I don’t need child services knockin’ on my door right now, you understand? So that’s why I stopped the record. But Lizzo, we love you and everybody — stop looking for the negative. Look at the positive, man!”
