In 2019, Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods initiated beef with fellow UK rockers IDLES by saying “they were appropriating, to a certain degree, a working class voice.” Joe Talbot responded shortly after, wondering, “What the fuck is wrong with the guy?” Now, the bands have made amends.
Talbot invited Williamson onto his Oh Gatekeeper podcast and introduced him by quipping that he was “on a Zoom with my arch-nemesis,” to which Williamson replied, “Well fuck you for inviting me on.”
For the hour-long episode, the pair discussed their inspirations, struggles, and even their working-class roots. Talbot referred to Williamson as “an old and new friend.” Sleaford Mods release their new album The Demise Of Planet X this Friday. Check out the wholesome podcast episode below.
