Posted by Deijae Jester, one of the individuals convicted in the 2020 murder of Pop Smoke, has been sentenced to four years in prison for smuggling fentanyl into a Los Angeles County juvenile detention facility. The sentencing follows a no-contest plea regarding the possession of 25 fentanyl-laced pills, which authorities allege were brought into the Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall by his mother during a visit in December 2025.
Jester was 15 years old when he participated in the home invasion robbery at the Hollywood Hills residence where the Brooklyn rapper was staying. Investigations later revealed that Jester was the individual who shot the artist three times in the back. Following his 2023 murder conviction, he was serving time at a juvenile facility in Sylmar when the drug smuggling incident occurred. Surveillance footage and recorded phone calls provided evidence that Jester and his mother, Nickia Randall, had coordinated the attempt to bring contraband into the facility.
During the December visit, guards intercepted a blue balloon containing the fentanyl-laced pills and a small amount of blue powder. While prosecutors requested the maximum five-year sentence, Jester’s defense attorney highlighted his difficult upbringing and his academic progress while incarcerated. Ultimately, Judge P. Tamu Usher handed down a four-year sentence.
The legal fallout from the murder of Pop Smoke has involved multiple defendants. Corey Walker, who was 19 at the time of the incident, was sentenced to 29 years in prison in 2025. Another individual, Keandre Rodgers, remains in a reassessment phase regarding his charges. A fourth participant, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, was sentenced to four years and two months in juvenile detention in 2023 after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter and home invasion burglary.
Under California law, Jester could not be held in a juvenile facility past the age of 25. Consequently, this new sentence will result in his transfer to a state prison to serve the remainder of his time.
