Scottish synth-pop icons CHVRCHES have officially confirmed their return with a new album, ‘All The King’s Men’, arriving January 22nd. The band, consisting of Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook, and Martin Doherty, took a hiatus following the success of their 2021 album ‘Screen Violence’, which reached the UK Top 10 and garnered widespread critical acclaim.
After stepping back to pursue individual projects, the trio has reunited with a renewed sense of purpose. ‘All The King’s Men’ is described as a visceral indie record, designed to confront the growing darkness within the UK and the wider world. Martin Doherty noted that his creative process was heavily influenced by frequent trips to Scotland, where he immersed himself in the works of British cinematic auteurs like Shane Meadows and Ken Loach, alongside the sounds of iconic artists such as Massive Attack, Siouxsie & The Banshees, and PJ Harvey.
To celebrate the announcement, the band will perform two intimate shows to preview new material: October 26th in their hometown of Glasgow and October 29th in London, with all proceeds donated to charity. Fans can pre-order the album now.
