The acoustic star’s work is often shockingly autobiographical, with his simple, kitchen sink odes discussing working class life in a frank, unflinching manner.
New single ‘Waiting For The Rain’ is out now, and it’s actually one of the first songs Andrew ever wrote, back when he was 15 years old.
It was prompted by some upsetting events in his life – following a huge family argument, he fled to a friend’s house, where he attempted to explain what had happened in the garden.
A song about trying to hold it all together, he sings: “I’m hanging by the fire, the flames are raising higher, I’m waiting for the rain.”
Given a full official release, ‘Waiting For The Rain’ is accompanied by a tender video, shot in Andrew Cushin’s much-loved local St. Peter’s Social Club.
It’s a day as normal – the football blares from the TV, a few people play darts, while Andrew is in the function room upstairs, sharing his art.
