Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine has cast doubt on the existence of bands.
The American giants have just released their new single ‘Beautiful Mistakes’, which features Megan Thee Stallion.
Famously, Hot Girl Meg isn’t a band – she’s a singular person, who isn’t often pictured with a guitar.
Seemingly there’s a colossal band-drought across North America right now, with Adam Levine putting out a plea for more bands via Zane Lowe.
Chatting to the Apple Music host, the frontman opined: “I feel like there aren’t any bands anymore, you know?”
This band-free musical landscape has left the frontman “sad” and he contrasted the current drought with the glory years of the 2000s – when, famously, there were Quite A Lot Of Bands About.
“That’s the thing that makes me kind of sad, is that there were just bands,” he continued. “There’s no bands anymore, and I feel like they’re a dying breed.”
It’s an odd observation – Mogwai were No. 1 on the UK Album Chart last week, and they’re a band. If you look to the United States, then Foo Fighters just released a massively successful album and (checks notes) yep, they’re a band.
“I mean, there still are plenty of bands,” he noted. “And maybe they’re not in the limelight quite as much, or in the pop limelight, but I wish there could be more of those around.”
