Notting Hill Carnival will go online for 2020.
The long-running and much-loved West London event is Europe’s largest street parade, an overwhelmingly positive expression of Afro-Caribbean identity.
Sadly, COVID means that it can’t go ahead this summer, so instead organisers have put together a digital alternative.
Taking place across three days, it moves from traditional steel pan ensembles – such as Pan Nation, Panectar, St Michaels and All Angels, Reading All Steel Percussion Orchestra – to chest-rattling soundsystems.
A number of Notting Hill Carnival legends will piece together sets, ranging from King Tubby’s and Rampage through to Rough But Sweet and Gaz’s Rockin Blues.
Moving through calypso, soca, and more, you can expect a flourish of colour from carnival bands such as The Bride Outreach, Calabash, Flamboyan, Colours, Burrokeets, DUKA, Tempo Mas, Funatiks, and many, many more.
