The Official Chart Company seem to have ditched their Scottish singles chart.
The long-standing run down honed in on the Scottish market, which tends to differ from the UK as a whole in both subtle and striking ways.
As 2020 draws to a close the Official Chart Company have quietly nixed their North of the Border singles countdown, stopping it on November 27th.
Radio broadcaster and all-round nice guy Jim Gellatly spotted the decision, and tweeted his displeasure:
It’s very disappointing @officialcharts seem to have ditched the Scottish Chart.
It was a great platform for acts like @TheSnuts @LukeLaVolpe and @joshua_grantt to boast their profiles with No.1 hits early in their careers.https://t.co/6t8KUJopHh

It certainly seems a strange move, with the Official Charts having added genre specific rundowns – the Afrobeats Chart, the Folk Chart – earlier in the year.
So, what gives? One online query found the Official Chart company claiming that “data limitations” preventing them being able to continue with publication of the chart.
The Scottish Albums chart, though, will continue.
A disappointing development, for sure.
