Scotland has given us some of the greatest music in history with too many names to list, though swim school are the recent crop of talent emerging from the north of the border.
Today they share with us new single ‘Outside’, a track more cerebral and artful than mere pop. It inhabits zigzagging guitar riffs that hold a gritty tone alongside a dreamy vocal arrangement.
Described by vocalist and guitarist Alice Johnson as being: “based on the negative impact the toxic people have on your mental health and the moment you realise how toxic they are.”
The rawness of the lyrics help strengthen the narrative “Now I see the way, You destroyed me, Your Honest, I watch it all go”. There is nothing gentle about the sharp expressive stab of Johnson’s words, however, there is swooning grace to the softness of her voice. This is the kind of band you need to see live and we cannot wait to watch them when normality returns.
In the meantime, tune in to this slammer.
