RESPONS have never shied away from life’s darker moments.
A rapper/singer whose soulful touch illuminates some of our more challenging chapters, he touches on addiction, heartbreak, and depression in his lyricism, while also permeating this with light.
Recently linking with Samm Henshaw and Barney Artist, he surges once more into solo territory on new single ‘Maisie’.
Out now, it’s a delicately sketched portrait of a young girl down on her luck, something struggling with addiction and mental health issues.
RESPONS finds the beauty within her, and his stunning sense of empathy results in a striking, dynamic work.
Taken from his upcoming EP, ‘Maisie’ was prompted by a real-life intervention.
He comments…
“‘Maisie’ is my response to meeting a girl who was suffering with drug addiction after a lot of personal problems in her life, like her parents and home situation. It’s a lyric for all of the young people who have had a difficult start and just do what they need to do to keep surviving.”
Theo Watkins directs the hard-hitting video, a clip that thrives on an intimate sense of emotional honesty.
RESPONS adds…
“For me, the song is just a big up to the women in my life – the women that I know that have gone through similar stuff. The whole message of the song is: You’re one in a million, and you’re gonna be alright…”
