A$AP Rocky’s long-awaited new album Don’t Be Dumb was slated for release Aug. 30 of last year, then got delayed after the Jessica Pratt-featuring single “Highjack.” It’s still not here, and he’s shared unrelated music since then. Now, he’s saying it’s coming this year.
In a chat with Glen Powell, LaKeith Stanfield, and Callum Turner for Vanity Fair, he was talking about his love for Tim Burton when he brought up the record. “His composer, his name’s Danny Elfman, he just did my album with me that I’m putting out this year. He scored a bunch of the songs on my new album,” he said.
In 2023, it was revealed Danny Elfman was facing sexual harassment allegations and was being sued for non-payment of the settlement. Later that year he was sued by another woman for sexual misconduct, but that case was dismissed the next year.
Rocky also gave an update on Don’t Be Dumb last month to Numéro Magazine, saying:
To be honest, I don’t want to talk about release dates anymore. I’d rather let the music speak for itself. One day, you’ll wake up and see what’s coming up. I was a bit foolish giving dates last time… Today, I want to make it clear. You’ll just have to wait and enjoy the record when it’ll come out.
During the Don’t Be Dumb promo cycle last year, he’d mentioned there was a track called “Hood Happy” that has Morrissey, Busta Rhymes, Flavor Flav, Slick Rick, and Fatman Scoop. But he’s been busy with other things, like being a dad and acting in Spike Lee’s latest film Highest 2 Lowest. Watch the Vanity Fair chat below.
