British Rap Legend Dizzee Rascal Seeks To Clear His Name Against Girlfriend's Brutal Claims

London, United Kingdom – Dizzee Rascal pled not guilty on Friday (September 3) of assaulting his ex-girlfriend in June.

Born Dylan Kwabena Mills, the legendary rapper appeared in Croydon Magistrates’ Court and denied headbutting Cassandra Jones at his home in south London on June 8. Jones reported she suffered minor injuries following the alleged assault, prompting police to arrest the 36-year-old rapper.

Hours after he left the courtroom, Dizzee took the stage at Lindisfarne Festival in the United Kingdom.

During Friday’s hearing, Dizzee’s lawyer argued his client “denies pushing his head into the complainant’s head and denies pushing her to the floor.” His trial is set for February 2022.

A mainstay in the UK’s grime scene, Dizzee first gained mass approval at 18 with his self-produced debut album Boy In Da Corner. The album would go on to win the Mercury Prize highlighting the best in British music. He would continue to release albums, including the 2009 album Tongue n’ Cheek which debuted at No. 3 on the UK charts and featured four No. 1 singles including “Dance Wiv Me,” “Holiday,” “Bonkers,” and “Dirtee Disco.”

Not only known to UK fans, but Dizzee also has on occasion crossed over stateside, appearing on UGK’s 2007 single “Two Types Of Bitches” from their double-disc album Underground Kingz.
