1501 Certified Entertainment signee Erica Banks was being called a Megan Thee Stallion copycat over the summer because of their shared Houston roots and label home at 1501. Now months later, she’s got a new major label deal and her single “Buss It” is exploding with its accompanying challenge – but she won’t forget who was clowning her early on.
“It’s funny to see some of y’all who was talking that shit months ago, droppin that #BussItChallenge,” she wrote with laughing emojis on her Instagram Story on Wednesday (January 13). “yall had a change of heart huh?”
1501 label head Carl Crawford chimed in, adding a recent video of fans singing along to “Buss It” as Banks performed and writing, “Okay and just two weeks later this is how her show looked. #1501.”

At the time of the Meg comparisons, Banks denied emulating the “WAP” rapper and implored people to listen for themselves to find out.
“only ppl from Texas understand that we all have the same “accent” lol,” she wrote on Twitter in June. “been gettin a lot of ‘i was wrong about you, you hard’ messages.. don’t let social media influence you before actually checkin somebody out, you just might like em.”
On Thursday (January 8), the Houston native announced her deal Warner Records in partnership with 1501.
“I am proud to announce that I am now signed to @warnerrecords @warnerbrosentertainment,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “Thank you to EVERYBODY supporting me, and thank you to @1501_certified_ent ?? I’m just gettin started!”
