Cardi B was forced to make a clean version of the sexually-explicit “WAP,” which can be an annoying process for an artist in and of itself. It became ten times worse when she had to use a word that she didn’t even want to say.
During an appearance on Australia’s Kyle and Jackie O Show on Thursday (August 27), Bardi chatted about the “Wet and Gushy” version of her record-breaking collab with Megan Thee Stallion and explained why she hated it.
“Wet and gushy – ugh, I don’t even like saying it,” she told them. “I would have had to replace it with, ‘Now from the top, make it drop, bounce that big ol’ booty,’ because that was the only thing that rhymed. It was really hard for me to clean this song up because nobody could convince me to keep ‘gushy,’ because I hate the word ‘gushy.’ Ugh.”
The clean version is also the only version made for the music video, as Cardi previously explained YouTube needed her to tone it down a bit. Fans didn’t seem to mind, though, as the video broke the record for the biggest 24-hour debut for an all-female collaboration on the video platform with 26 million views in it is first day.
