As 2022 HipHopDX Rising Star Coi Leray gears up to release new music, she is also making a point to distance herself from comparison to other female artists — namely Detroit rapper DeJ Loaf.
In a quote tweet reply to a Twitter user on Wednesday (January 19), Coi Leray dismantled the argument that she cloned DeJ Loaf’s sonic blueprint simply because the pair of rappers have similar stylistic and gender identification preferences.
“Maybe it’s the tomboy stud vibe we have in common.., but we do not sound alike,” she wrote in part. “From ‘No More Parties’ to ‘Big Prrdd’ and ‘Twinnem’ nigga you cannot tell me we sound alike.”
Coincidently, before the aforementioned keyboard warrior launched their tirade of comparisons on Coi Leray, she shared a fresh, unreleased snippet of her upcoming Chief Keef-produced single featuring a revamped, vocal-heavy approach.

Throughout 2021, Coi Leray battled outspoken listeners and critics, who continuously picked on the Republic Records MC for seemingly everything from her slim body image to her live performances, freestyles and braided hairstyles.
It appears Coi Leray is determined to block out haters this year, though, following the message she issued last month along with the release of her “Medicine” single.
