Bubbling rapper Coi Leray dropped her debut album Trendsetter on April 8. But even with features from Nicki Minaj, Fivio Foreign, Young M.A., H.E.R and other, her first week album sales are projected to land somewhere around 11,000 total album-equivalent units, not exactly the Billboard smash she was likely expecting.
On Wednesday (April 13), Coi Leray’s father Benzino — former publisher of The Source and Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta personality — allegedly mocked his own daughter for the dismal projections with several Instagram posts. But according the 56-year-old, he did nothing of the sort and instead, claimed he was hacked.
Even so, Leray appeared to reply to the controversy with a tweet that read, “God has been the best father to me. I can’t complain about anything. My debut album is amazing and not one song can you say is bad. It been 5 days. I understand Coi Leray is so viral & works good on blogs headlines but trust me, it’s all part of the game just ride out andstayfocus.”

But Coi Leray wasn’t done there and returned with another message for her critics on Thursday (April 14), dismissing the low album sales and promoting the album.
In a video uploaded to Instagram, the 24-year-old twerks on top of a red convertible sports car as she blasts her single “Thief In The Night” featuring G Herbo. The caption reads, “11k dissss ZdiCKKKKKK. TRENDSETTER THE ALBUM OUT NOW !!!!”

Leray’s relationship with her father has been strained for years, with their heated discourse often playing out in public. But in a series of recent tweets, Benzino denied he would ever make fun of her and insisted it wasn’t him behind the malicious post.
“I lost @iambenzino a year ago on IG,” he wrote. “I lost 1.3 million followers. They must have shut my page down then put the name back out there. I been reported that page months ago on benzinos_legendary which they just shut down days ago @benzino.scott is what I’m using now. 2 all you goofy mf in internet land, Instagram took down my @iambenzino page a year ago. Then the last 2 months someone else pops up with @iambenzino. They’re even clowning me on that page.
“All you mfs who came at me cause you thought it was me keep that same energy when I see u. My legal team is about to go hammer time on anyone who has defamed my name and legacy. You the Tasha K situation right? Ok watch this. Have fun now, pay later. Oh yeah and why would I laugh at Coi? She’s one the best things that I am. I very proud of her and her accomplishments.”
