Huntsville, TX – Danny Brown may be best known as a rapper, but his humor is clear as day in his lyrics and other ventures such as his Viceland show, Danny’s House. Thanks to friend and famed comedian, Hannibal Buress, Brown had the opportunity to perform stand-up comedy for the first time on Thursday night (September 23) in Huntsville, Texas.
“Tonights my first time going on stage and doing stand up … wish me luck,” Danny Brown wrote on Twitter ahead of his opening performance.
A couple of hours later, he tweeted, “I didn’t bomb!!!!!!!”

The Detroit rapper thanked Buress for encouraging him to try out stand-up comedy and revealed he’ll be working on more material.
“Hannibal killing em now owe this dude for life for giving me the confidence to finally get on stage,” he said. “Thank you to everyone who sent me good luck wishes it definitely helped cause playing in front of 4K for my first stand up set definitely had me missing sleep last night.”
He continued, “Definitely have a lot to work on but I can honestly say I’m addicted now and want to get better at this so I’m definitely gonna go hard when I get back home. So get that slash ready cause it’s rapper/comedian now.”

Danny Brown described his last project uknowhatimsayin¿ as his version of a “stand-up comedy album,” stating most of his friends are comedians and actors. But his love of comedy goes back to his school days when he toyed with aspirations of being a rapper or comedian when he grew up.
“Comedy’s been a part of my life since rap was, ya know? It all goes hand-in-hand,” he told Complex in 2019. “I remember back when I was in school and I would tell people that I wanted to be a rapper and shit and them muthafuckas would laugh at me. From then on, I just said I wanted to be a comedian. Until one day, my teacher told me to tell a joke and I froze up.”
He continued, “My 5th Grade teacher told me I should stick to rap and was adamant about it, so shout out to Ms. Capen. She was my first A&R! Any school program she could put me in to rap, she’d put me in to rap. I’m probably a rapper because of Ms. Capen, she really pushed me and told me that I had a talent that I shouldn’t let go to waste.”
