Drake and Kanye West may have reignited their cold war this summer, but that hasn’t stopped Drizzy from taking a page out of Mr. West’s book.
Back in 2016, Kanye made numerous revisions to The Life of Pablo after its release, calling the album a “living breathing changing creative expression.” Five years later, Drake appears to be taking a similar approach to his latest project Certified Lover Boy.
As HipHop-N-More points out, the 6 God has made several post-release tweaks to his sixth studio album on streaming services.
The 21 Savage and Project Pat-assisted “Knife Talk” has apparently been given a new mix and outro transition, while Drake updated his line “I’ma drop this shit and have these pussies dropping like some muthafuckin’ flies.” Previously, the word “flies” was omitted.
Elsewhere, “IMY2” features a new line (“My world comes alive… in life survive”) and ad-libs from Kid Cudi, while the beat on the Rick Ross and Lil Wayne collaboration, “You Only Live Twice,” now fades out instead of ending abruptly at the 3:25-minute mark.
While the changes to Certified Lover Boy are only minor, it continues the recent trend of artists amending their albums after the fact.
Just earlier this week, Kendrick Lamar’s cousin and collaborator Baby Keem updated his debut album The Melodic Blue by issuing a new version of “Lost Souls” with R&B crooner Brent Faiyaz, while tacking on the previously-released “Hooligan” and “No Sense” to the end of the album.
As for his own blockbuster project Donda, Kanye West appeared to make all his revisions before the record’s release. He played updated versions of several songs across three public listening parties in Atlanta and Chicago prior to its arrival on August 29, apparently using fan feedback to shape the album.
In other news, Drake’s Certified Lover Boy is expected to fend off Lil Nas X’s MONTERO and stay at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The album, which has already smashed streaming records, is projected to move an additional 156,000 album-equivalent units in its third week, pushing it to platinum status less than a month after its release.
