It’s been about two weeks since Will Smith smacked Chris Rock in the face at the 94th Academy Awards, and people are still talking about the slap heard around the world.
On Wednesday (April 7), Fat Joe was leaving a speaking event with Reverend Al Sharpton when he stopped to chat with TMZ about the Oscars’ slapping incident. According to Joey Crack, the whole fiasco is setting minorities back.
“It’s sad because Will is such a beautiful person, but he’s taking a hit because we come such a long way, and we telling everybody to respect us,” The Bronx rap legend said. “Had it been 50 Cent or Fat Joe, I would’ve understand, but Will Smith, he’s like the best we got. So it’s unfortunate that happened to him.”
He continued, “He been fighting so hard, he been working his whole, he been an expert example for us, and it’s unfortunate it happened to him. But people definitely looking at that saying we don’t know how to act for sure.”
Will Smith has been under fire since winning his first Best Actor award for his role as Richard Williams, the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams, in King Richard. The Academy recently announced they banned Smith from attending any of their events for the next 10 years and are still deciding if he gets to keep his trophy from his monumental win.
On the other hand, Fat Joe is getting ready to release his own memoir titled The Book Of Jose. The “All The Way Up” rapper took to Instagram to announce the book would be out on November 1.
“I’m proud to present my memoir– The Book of Jose,” he wrote in the caption. “This is my life unfiltered, the story of a kid growing up in the South Bronx’s unforgiving streets and how I became a multi-platinum-selling artist. #TheBookofJose comes out on 11/1, but you can pre-order your copy now from @roclit101!
