Former Roc-A-Fella Records rapper Freeway has suffered a series of devastating blows beginning with the death of his son in 2020 and now, his daughter. Freeway revealed the sad news via Instagram on Sunday (October 24), explaining 21-year-old Harmony had lost her battle with cancer.
In addition to peers such as Big Boi, Rapsody and Bun B, who flooded Freeway’s comment section, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden quickly offered their support but with a letter.
Freeway shared the letter he received from The White House to his Instagram account, thanking Mr. and Mrs. Biden for their thoughtful gesture. The letter read in part, “I was heartbroken to hear about the loss of your daughter, Harmony. As we both know, and as I told you when I saw you in Philadelphia last year, there are no words that can ease the pain of losing a child—a part of your soul. Jill and I are standing with you and your family during this difficult time.”
He added, “We both know how hard loss is. It leaves a hole in your heart that never fully heals. But as someone shared with me long ago, it’s important to find purpose as you move forward. I hope you are able to continue turning your pain into purpose. I know you know this, but Harmony and Jihad will always be with you.”

As President Biden mentioned, he’s offered Freeway his support in the past. Shortly after the death of Freeway’s son, the rapper attended Biden’s Philadelphia rally where he performed as part of the entertainment. Midway through the event, Biden hopped on stage and shared his grief.
“I also want to thank Philly Freeway for being here and performing,” he said. “I know he’s heartbroken about the loss of his son. I know the pain of burying a son and he does too now, unfortunately. It means the world to me he chose to be here because the election is that important.”
Biden lost his son Beau in 2015 following a battle with brain cancer. Freeway later thanked Biden on Twitter with, “Me & my brother @oschinovasquez1 both lost our sons in the same week @joebiden thank you for the kind words. I know you know the pain that comes with losing a son. We are from two totally different World’s but we can relate to each other. You have my vote on Tuesday!”
Freeway lost his son Jihad nearly a year to the day in October 2020. His sentiments at the time were understandably similar to how he’s feeling about losing his daughter.
“God knows I try my best to be strong, but this right here is a pain like I never felt, Please cherish your time and your love ones because we’re not promise the next breath,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “I Pray Allah forgives my son for all Of his sins and I pray that Allah grants him the highest level of paradise. Ameen. Please make dua for him & my family.”
HipHopDX continues to send our support to Freeway and his family.
