Guapdad 4000 has released a trailer for Stoop Kid, a new short film which acts as an accompaniment to his 2021 project 1176 — check it out below.
Developed by Amazon Music and 88Rising, the Oakland-bred rapper posted the trailer on Instagram and said he was inspired to craft the film after coming out of a dark depression spurred on by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
“It’s crazy to be posting this,” he wrote. “Quarantine got so heavy for me that I fell into a deep depression just too much death and uncertainty but by the grace of God I have been blessed with many talents and also to have a connection with my big brother @illmindproducer with whom I’ve created 1176 the album & inspiring My short Film/ Musical ‘Stoop Kid’ … a story about my journey in Oakland.”
The Jason Ano-directed film doesn’t yet have a release date, but the !llmind-assisted tape 1176 will soundtrack the whole experience. The project dropped last June and featured guest appearances from Rick Ross, Buddy, P-Lo and Tish Hyman.
“If !llmind had a power it would be to shapeshift, he can do anything,” Gupadad said of the album to Complex. “Something like this comes in handy when you need to tell the full spectrum of your story like I did in this music. I had no idea we would stumble upon something this magical though, but I guess I should have known that linking up with my Filipino brother would enhance my super powers!”
