Kanye West backed out of Coachella earlier this week, which left festival organizers scrambling for a replacement until they announced Ye’s “Hurricane” collaborator The Weeknd would be filling his Sunday headlining slot.
According to TMZ, Kanye pulling out of the Indio, California-based festival saw him give up a solid paycheck.
TMZ reported on Wednesday (April 6) that Coachella agreed to pay Yeezy $8 million for the pair of Sunday performances scheduled for April 17 and April 24 in addition to dolling out $500,000 in production costs for his stage design.

Coachella was reportedly caught off-guard until they found a replacement with The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia as co-headliners. Ye was allegedly not putting much thought into the performance even though the festival date was just mere weeks away.
Not many artists would leave an $8 million payday on the table, but Kanye West could afford to. Forbes‘ latest estimates have Kanye’s net worth north of $2 billion.
West hasn’t spoken about Coachella, the Grammy Awards or anything as his social media presence has been radio silent since Instagram suspended him in March.
Kanye didn’t make an appearance at the Grammy Awards even after taking home a pair of trophies for Best Rap Song and Best Melodic Rap Performance.
Instead, Ye opted to bring his girlfriend Chaney Jones to visit family where they celebrated his cousin’s grandma’s 85th birthday with a surprise party in California.
