Joey Bada$$ is getting ready to release his upcoming album 2000, and he’s already taking to Twitter to get fans hyped for the sequel to his breakthrough mixtape 1999. On Thursday (May 19), the Brooklyn rap star hopped on the social media app to explain to fans the differences between 2000 and 1999.
“If 1999 was about a kid from Brooklyn, New York trynna make it big and put his friends on, #2000 is about that same kid who’s now a man and on the other side of the fence. Similar vibe, different perspectives,” Joey tweeted. “1999 was growing up in NY, #2000 is glowing up in NY.”
He added, “#2000 is 1999‘s bigger and richer brother.”

Joey announced the album on May 12 and revealed he would be going on a North American tour. 2000 will be arriving on June 17 via Columbia Records, and it’s his first full-length effort in five years. During an interview with XXL earlier this month, the Pro Era member spoke about what’s to come on the album.
“I’m just ready for it to come out,” he said. “I know the world needs new Joey music. Shit, Joey wants to give the world new music.”
He continued, “As far as producers go, I got my boys on there: Statik Selektah, Kirk Knight. I got a Cardo joint on there. I got a Mike WiLL [Made-It] joint on there. I’m supposed to be getting in with DJ Premier this week ’cause I told him I can’t complete this album if we don’t link up.”
