California singer Joyce Wrice turned heads and ears with her 2021 debut album Overgrown featuring the likes of Lucky Daye, Freddie Gibbs and Westside Gunn, among others. Now she’s preparing to give a voice to one of Disney’s more beloved animated series.
On Friday (January 14), Disney announced Wrice would be singing the theme song to The Proud Family reboot titled The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. Wrice shared the news on Twitter and a clip of her working on the new song.
“I am so excited to share that I’ll be singing the reimagined theme song for #TheProudFamilyLouderAndProuder,” she wrote. “I am a huge fan of the original series and am honored to be a part of the #DisneyPlus Revival. I can’t wait for you to hear it!!”

Solange and Destiny’s Child sang the original theme song and the show ran for two seasons between 2001 and 2005 but remained a cult favorite among fans. The revival will premiere on Disney+ on February 23, with the entire original cast returning and guest appearances from Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Chance the Rapper, Normani and more.
Wrice was a fan of the original show growing up and referred to the theme song as “iconic.”
“It’s timeless. It is classic… I know it so well. So, for me to kinda like take the baton and do it, it’s amazing,” Wrice said in a recently released featurette about the show’s music. She added she wanted to pay “dues and respect” to the original version while adding her own flare.
