Strange Music artist King Iso has returned with a new album called Get Well Soon featuring contributions from Strange Music co-founder and independent rap god Tech N9ne, Twista, Rittz and more. The 18-track effort finds King Iso tackling mental illness, the pharmaceutical industry, substance abuse and struggles the COVID-19 pandemic has presented over the last two years.
Over ominous yet delicate piano notes and deafening bass, King Iso bares his soul for over an hour, putting his songwriting prowess centerstage. Produced entirely by King Iso, the album yielded several successful singles, including “Hypocrite” and “Made Me Crazy” featuring Tech N9ne and Snake Lucci.
The album arrives months after King Iso catapulted to TikTok fame alongside Tech N9ne, Joey Cool and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on the biggest independent rap song of 2021, “Face Off.”
The track birthed a viral TikTok challenge that’s amassed over 13 billion views. The track itself has pulled in over 62 million Spotify streams so far and 44 million YouTube views.
In an interview with KMBC, the Omaha-bred rapper noted he addresses mental health at every concert and finds strength from his fans.
“When I do these shows, I seen them all in the crowd,” he said. “They’re all looking at me. They’re all waiting for me to talk to them by the merchandise booth when we’re done. I hear story after story. A girl came up to me and said, ‘I had a plan to kill myself after this show, but your last song made me change my mind. I just want to thank you.’
“She clenched me. I haven’t been hugged that hard my entire life, and I didn’t want to let go of her. I’ll go backstage and cry. Everybody is out there drinking and partying, I have to step away. I have to readjust myself.”
He added, “I could be having the worst day ever, and somebody will write me or comment on an Instagram post or something and it’ll be a paragraph. Something so beautiful like, ‘I keep going for you, I keep fighting for you, and make sure you keep fighting for us. I love you and if you haven’t heard it today, you’re an amazing person and you matter.’ And I’m like, ‘OK, let me get up. Let me clean this house up. Let me get myself together and do what I need to do.’”
King Iso released his Strange Music debut, World War Me, in 2020 peppered with songs such as “World War Me” and “Chopped Liver.” The following year, he joined Tech N9ne’s Strange New World Tour and will embark on a multi-city headline tour later this year.
