New York, N.Y. – Latto’s tour in support of her 777 album continued on Thursday night (April 7) when she made her The Tonight Show debut to perform a two-track medley.
“How y’all feeling,” she asked the NYC crowd. “I go by the name of Latto. This is ‘Sunshine.’”
Big Latto showed off her versatility by electing to go with the more melodic “Sunshine,” which she’s dubbed to be a “hood gospel” song that features assists from Lil Wayne and Childish Gambino. The talented team of singers behind her and the backdrop boasting a picturesque sunset added a nice touch to the performance.
She then moved into her “Big Energy” smash hit, which has reached a new peak on the Billboard Hot 100 this week slotted at No. 3 thanks to a boost from a remix featuring Mariah Carey and DJ Khaled. Latto opened up more for the second song with her hips gyrating and backup dancers joining her in the fun.
With “Big Energy” cracking the Top 5 of the Hot 100, she became the ninth solo female rap act to hit the Top 5 with a single. Latto joins Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat, Lauryn Hill, M.I.A., Missy Elliott and Salt-N-Pepa to achieve the feat. “Big Energy” is also the first Top 5 record from a solo female in the rap game since Cardi B did it with her “Up” single last year.
Latto released her 777 album on March 25. The project debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 with 21,900 total album-equivalent units sold.
