DJ Quik has spent his 2022 linking up with some big talent. The legendary West Coast producer was seen hitting the studio with Vince Staples on January 6 after the Long Beach lyricist tweeted Quik’s presence was required in order to finish his next album. Quik then followed it up with another photo of him alongside Roddy Ricch and Grammy award-winning producer Ahvlah on Thursday (January 27).
Now, Quik has confirmed he’s also been in the studio with fellow West Coast producer Mustard.
Quik took to Instagram on Friday (January 28) to share a pic of him and the “Pure Water” producer hanging out in the studio. While it’s unclear what the pair are cooking up, they both appeared happy to be in each other’s company.

The matchup comes after Mustard feuded with Hitmaka last December, trading shots with the Chicago producer on Twitter over who would win in a Verzuz battle. Hitmaka kicked things off after he said in an interview on the Joe Budden Podcast that Mustard “doesn’t want smoke” in a Verzuz, to which Mustard called Hitmaka “high” for making such a claim. The two producers went on to flex their accolades on Twitter, but as of now no concrete Verzuz challenge has been made.
As for Quik, he’s been trying to keep it strictly about the music in 2022. Last November, Quik was accused by Keefe D of being involved in the murder of The Notorious B.I.G. In an interview with The Art of Dialogue, Keefe D – who is uncle to 2Pac’s alleged killer – pushed back on the theory that Death Row singer Jewell had set Biggie up to be killed, instead insisting Quik was to blame.
“People be saying that she set him up and [stuff] like that. That’s what the streets be saying, but I don’t think Jewell would do that,” Keefe said. “Me myself, I think Theo and them did ’em, the DJ dude. That’s who I think done it. Him and Quik. That’s what I think. I just think the setup went down in that type of way, but I don’t think homegirl did it ’cause Puff told me that they was there to sign with his label.”
In a clip of the interview shared by HipHopDX, Quik responded in the comments saying he felt, “real Litigious right now,” threatening legal action for the slander. Ultimately, Quik just kept it moving and didn’t move forward with any lawsuit. Wack 100 additionally commented that Keefe D wasn’t worth the energy.
“Don’t,” Wack wrote in the interview’s comment section. “He’s playing dumb trying to clean up what he really said bout hisself. This is a attempt to show what he says isn’t credible so his words can’t be used against him.”
