Self-proclaimed Chicago JAY-Z, aka Lil Durk, believes deceased rapper Juice WRLD would be thriving if he were still alive.
On Thursday (April 28), Durkio shared a message with his 6.2 million followers remarking on the extraordinary body of work the “Lucid Dreams” lyricist left behind, while also revealing his begrudging view of the current state of music.
“I wish juice world was still alive cause the music watered down now his talent showed he ain’t need a gimmick,” he tweeted.

This isn’t the first time Lil Durk has expressed his opinion about Juice WRLD, who died in December 2019 following a seizure at Chicago Midway airport. During a 2020 interview with Montreality, the OTF rapper explained how highly he regarded Juice WRLD’s talent, going as far as comparing his potential to one of the biggest artists of this generation.
“[I] rock with him 1000,” Durk said. “He was like an icon. Not just saying it because [he died], but he had an advantage to be like the next — coming out of Chicago — like the next Kanye type shit. Because he was smart.”
Nearly four years after his death, Juice WRLD, whose legal name is Jaarad Anthony Higgins, is still making immense headway as an artist due to the milestones his music discography has reached in his afterlife.
Following the release of his posthumous Fighting Demons album in 2021, Juice WRLD joined accomplished rappers such as Drake, Eminem, Outkast, Post Malone, Lil Nas X, Nelly and The Notorious B.I.G., who all belong to the diamond certification club, thanks to the success of his “Lucid Dreams” hit.
