Lil Yachty was rising in star power when he appeared in Kanye West’s ‘Yeezy Season 3’ fashion show five years ago Thursday (February 11) – but he was dead broke. Reminiscing on the moment on Twitter, Yachty revealed he had less than $100 to his name at the time and had used a buddy pass to get to the show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
“Today 5 years ago I stood in the yeezy show,” Lil Boat began with a photo of him from the event. “I was still living with my mom and flew on a buddy pass to New York with probably $70 bucks to my name.. but I was mad excited and I feel like my life changed from this day on. My mom and friends cheered me on via text. Thanks Ian.<3"

Other major names in MSG that day included Kid Cudi, Pusha-T, Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Ian Connor, the whole Kardashian family, Anna Wintour, Lamar Odom and more. The event also served as an album release party for The Life of Pablo, which hit streaming services three days later on February 14, 2016.
At the time, Yachty’s breakout single “One Night” had been gaining major traction online, but it wasn’t until the fashion show that things really took off for him. The following month, he dropped his debut mixtape Lil Boat , which featured Quavo, Skippa da Flippa and Young Thug on another popular song from the tape, “Minnesota.”
Since then, Yachty signed a joint deal with Quality Control Music, Capitol Records and Motown Records and now has multiple gold and platinum plaques to his name. He’s also proven his pen game works for others as well, being responsible for City Girls’ hit record, “Act Up.”
The Atlanta native last released his Lil Boat 3 album in 2020 and is now getting ready for another effort. On Wednesday (February 10), he was spotted shooting a visual alongside Gucci Mane and Kodak Black, just after releasing a new music video for his track “Asshole” with Oliver Tree.
