Limp Bizkit’s Estonia Concert Canceled Over Fred Durst’s Past Putin Support

This is news to me, but apparently Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst has a long history of saying nice things about the state of Russia and even about its leader Vladimir Putin. Durst and Bizkit were banned from Ukraine for years, and now it turns out that they’re also no longer welcome in Estonia.

The PRP has the details: In 2012, Durst married a Crimean-born Russian makeup artist by the name of Kseniya Beryazina. This led to Durst spending time on the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014, and becoming friendly with state officials there. During a 2015 show, Durst reportedly held up a banner that said “Crimea = Russia,” which led to a five-year ban from Ukraine. While Limp Bizkit toured Russia, Durst also posted lots of social-media content about himself enjoying the culture.

According to ERR News, Durst once referred to Vladimir Putin as “a great guy with clear moral principles and a nice person.” Durst became much less vocal on that subject after he and Beryazina divorced in 2018, though Durst did tell Russian fans last year that he misses them and he wants to return.

Over the summer, Limp Bizkit announced plans to play a show at Talinn, Estonia’s Unibet Arena next spring. Officials in Estonia, a former Soviet republic, have expressed the country’s solidarity with Ukraine and made it clear that Putin supporters aren’t welcome in the country. After reports about Durst’s comments circulated, the promoters of the Talinn show announced its cancellation, blaming “circumstances beyond the organizer’s control.”
