Anyone who has lost a parent understands the inevitable heartache that goes along with it — and celebrities are certainly not immune.

On Sunday (July 5), Machine Gun Kelly announced his father had died in an Instagram post. He originally planned to celebrate the one-year anniversary of his Hotel Diablo album on that day, but the universe evidently had other plans.

“I had plans for the one year anniversary of Hotel Diablo today,” he captioned a photo of the project’s cover art. “that album was everything i wanted to say and i know it’s close to my fans…‬but my father took his last breath this morning, and ive never felt a pain this deep in my life.‬ ‪i’m setting my phone down. ‬love you. thank you guys for everything.”

MGK is receiving plenty of public support following his father’s passing. Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker wrote, “Send[ing] all the love in the world to you right now brother,” while Lil Skies said, “I love you brother so much.”

The actor/rapper didn’t disclose his father’s cause of death.
