Method Man won the NAACP Imagine Award in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category on Saturday night (February 26) for his role as Davis MacLean in Power Book II: Ghost. His co-star, Mary J. Blige, also took home an award in the same category for her role as Monét Tejada,
While Meth is routinely commended for his acting on the show, there’s a sense he might not have known just how popular his role was until the NAACAP win. Shortly after he was presented with the honor, the Wu-Tang Clan legend shared an Instagram post celebrating the award and declared his “price just went up.”
“2x [trophy emojis],” he wrote. “Repost from @naacpimageawards. Congratulations to Cliff #MethodMan Smith – Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series – Power Book II: Ghost. #NAACPImageAwards.”

The comment section erupted with congratulatory remarks from his famous friends. From Lil Cease and DJ Scratch to Busta Rhymes and B-Real, his peers were elated by Method Man’s success. “SUPER PROUD OF YOU KING!!!!” Bus-A-Bus wrote in all caps,” while Raekwon told his fellow Wu-Tang legend, “You deserve it.”
Method Man is presumably extremely proud of his “All I Need” collaborator Mary J. Blige as well. In a November 2021 interview with Metro, he revealed he thinks 50 Cent’s STARZ series was created with the R&B singer in mind.
“Mary brought a big audience with her, they knew what they was doing,” he said. “Plus, Mary was a fan of this show and I think this show was written exclusively for her, especially with the Monet character which I think she is brilliant at. I love seeing Mary outside of her comfort zone as far as being on-stage and singing and all that. She’s been getting her feet wet in this acting game and there’s only room for improvement and she has all my support.”
He continued, “Mary’s not regular at all, she’s more real. This is our royalty regardless of how anyone else feels about her, Mary is our royalty and we’re not going to let anyone tarnish this brand. She’s bringing it this season – I just wish she’d hug her kids [laughs] but in the business she’s in, she can’t be soft at all, it’s got to be tough love all around the board and she’s killing it.”
Power Book II: Ghost was recently renewed for a third season and will find Meth, Blige (who plays Monet Tejada) and executive producer 50 Cent reprising their roles.
