Mike Tyson and Boosie Badazz’s tough yet heartfelt podcast conversation, which addressed the latter’s homophobia and transphobia, had a tense moment behind the scenes.
During an interview with TMZ, Tyson said his own daughter confronted Boosie over the outspoken rapper’s controversial remarks about Dwyane Wade’s transgender daughter. The boxing legend noted his daughter flew across the country to attend the Hotboxin interview.
“You know, I was Boosie at one time,” Tyson explained. “My daughter, she flew all the way from New York City to L.A. California where I’m at just to be there ’cause she thought Boosie was so disrespectful. She had to confront him. Could you imagine that?”
He continued, “And I’m saying, ‘Hey, you can’t come through. Who do you think you are, coming down here and confronting my guest?’ And she said, ‘No, I gotta talk to him. This brother’s disrespectful to the community.’ So, she came and they didn’t show it. She came and she confronted him. I was worried ’cause I thought I was gonna have to get angry ’cause this is my baby. But he conducted himself like a gentleman and it went OK. It didn’t go like I anticipated it to go. My daughter has a lot of courage and stuff.”
Although Tyson pressed Boosie on his Hotboxin podcast, he wanted to make it clear he’s got nothing but respect for the Baton Rouge-bred artist. The former heavyweight champ wished the best for Boosie and hoped their discussion helped.
“I love Boosie,” he said. “Boosie is beautiful as far as I’m concerned. It’s just that, he gotta win that fight over those demons. He has to win, he can’t give into them.”
