It’s always something with this guy. Today, the Morrissey news pertains to his website — or, more accurately, the URL that ostensibly should be his website.
Steven Patrick Morrissey has never, to our knowledge, controlled the morrissey.com domain. Decades ago it was owned by some squatter. In the 2010s it was acquired by the fashion designer Peter Morrissey, and at some point it was hacked by an Emma Watson stan. All the while, the former Smiths singer has been posting his many missives at morrisseycentral.com.
Recently, he had the chance to take over morrissey.com, but he let it slip past him. The domain went up for auction through GoDaddy last month and was sold for a pittance; the last visible bid before the auction closed on Jan. 25 was $11,253. A few days ago, the new owner’s version of the site went live. For now, it’s just a photo of what looks like the Palace of Westminster overlaid with the message, “I’m not far right, I’m not far left, I’m… far forward.” There do not appear to be any links to navigate elsewhere within the domain. It looks like Johnny Marr did not seize the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever.

This seems like the kind of message the politically fraught Moz might disseminate, but according to a new statement (published on morrisseycentral.com, of course), he is not involved with morrissey.com at this time. The statement implies that he wasn’t even aware it was up for auction and did not submit a bid, even though our own Scott Lapatine gave him a heads-up. “It has come to our attention that on January 25, 2026, morrissey.com was purchased at auction,” Morrissey writes. “At this time, Morrissey nor his team have any affiliation with this domain.”
Morrissey’s new album Make-Up Is A Lie is out 3/6, but you presumably won’t read about it at morrissey.com.
