Chicago, IL – Chicago rapper Edai was reportedly shot and killed either late Saturday night (July 31) or in the wee hours of Sunday morning (August 1). According to SayCheese TV, he was shot multiple times in the back and rushed to the University of Chicago Hospital where he died.
Edai is often credited for helping pioneer the Chicago drill scene alongside fellow Chi-Town rapper Chief Keef. He first emerged in 2012 thanks to the success of his song “Gucci.” Edai then established his own label Team 600 ENT and released his solo album Came From Nothing in February 2014.
Another Chicago rapper, King Hittz, took his grief to his Instagram Stories with several posts about Edai’s death, seemingly confirming the news.

Edai’s death adds to the rapidly growing list of rappers who have died by gun violence in 2020 and 2021. Beginning with Pop Smoke’s murder in February 2020, there have been at least a dozen killings over the last several months.
Most recently, 2Pac and Ice Cube affiliate Gonzoe was gunned down in Seattle over the weekend, while local rappers such as Indian Red Boy, Boog The Bandit and Hot Boy Ju all died this year after being shot.
Edai’s shared his last Instagram post just three days ago in which he promised to keep delivering “the hottest shit in America.” The post included a clip of his latest video “Bedrock.”
