A 2019 gang-related murder has ties to Hip Hop. Queens native Christopher Acevedo is currently behind bars for the alleged drive-by execution of David Hutchinson in August 2019, according to AMNY. Acevedo, an assumed Wood City gang member, is being charged with murder in aid of racketeering charges and faces up to life in prison without parole.
Federal prosecutors labeled the brutal murder in front of a Queens bodega, which saw Acevedo fire 11 shots at Hutchinson, to be retaliation for a previous incident. Law enforcement connected Hutchinson, a SNOW gang member, to a chain-snatching altercation involving a local rapper and a Wood City affiliate.
Police are withholding the rapper’s identity for legal purposes. Prosecutors believe the chain-snatching incident and murder only took place a few hours apart on August 26, 2019.
A SNOW member allegedly stole the chain off the neck of a Wood City member at gunpoint at a recording studio in Hillside, New York. After seeing videos of SNOW bragging on social media with the chain, Acevedo then took it upon himself to make things right.
Acevedo shot Hutchinson three times in the torso. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital before succumbing to his injuries a few hours later. Acevedo was arrested four months after the shooting as investigators used security cameras to identify him and his white BMW in the area, which was actually registered to his mother. He appeared in court on Thursday (March 18).
“A review of surveillance camera footage reveals that approximately 30 seconds after the white Dodge Charger parked, a white BMW vehicle pulled alongside the white Dodge Charger,” according to a complaint. “The driver of the BMW can be observed on video leaning across the front passenger seat of the BMW and firing a semiautomatic weapon into the Dodge Charger’s front driver’s seat, where Hutchinson was located.”
The FBI reportedly received information on the Hutchinson murder through a cooperating witness and a separate source from within the Bloods gang.
