Primal Scream Break Out Live Rarities At XTRMNTR 25th Anniversary Show In London

Primal Scream released their aggro electronic rock masterpiece XTRMNTR in 2000, which means it turned 25 this year. The band celebrated that quarter-century anniversary tonight with a full-album performance at the Roundhouse in London. For the main set, Bobby Gillespie and his band — which, sadly, did not feature the dearly departed Mani or XTRMNTR sonic guru Kevin Shields, whose main band My Bloody Valentine recently returned to the stage — blew threw the main album’s full 11-song tracklist, which required the performance of some album tracks for the first time in years.

The longest gap belonged to “Keep Your Dreams,” “Insect Royalty,” and the Shields-referencing “MBV Arkestra (If They Move, Kill ‘Em),” all of which Primal Scream had not played live since way back in 2000. They broke out “Blood Money” for the first time since 2001. It was the first time since 2018 for “Shoot Speed/Kill Light,” the first since 2019 for “Accelerator,” the first since 2021 for “Kill All Hippies,” and the first since 2022 for “Exterminator” and “Pills.”

That’s crazy! If I were in Primal Scream I’d be liberally pulling from my best album at every concert. For the encore, the band ran through some of their greatest hits including “Jailbird,” “Loaded,” “Movin’ On Up,” “Country Girl,” and “Rocks.”
